Mufundisi Kasava and Amai joined us to drop some serious gems on integrity, humility, and “seasoning your speech with salt.” Our students aren’t just going out to preach—they’re going out to be examples.

They shared essential tips, established clear “dos and don’ts,” and provided the motivation needed to excel. Read Brother Kasava’s address below:
A Message to the Students
“Let me take this opportunity to congratulate those headed out for the Field Program. This is the season where people will say, ‘Let’s see if they will survive.’ The two months following your field placement are the most crucial because that is when a person’s true character is revealed.
- 1 Timothy 4:12
‘Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.’
Setting an example in speech means being mindful of how you communicate, especially in a new workplace. Here are some practical tips:
- Speak with kindness: Choose words that uplift and encourage others.
- Be authentic: Share your thoughts and opinions respectfully, without being pretentious.
- Listen actively: Pay attention to others and respond thoughtfully.
- Avoid gossip: Refrain from sharing negative or unconfirmed information.
- Use positive language: Frame your messages in a solution-focused way.
- Titus 2:7-8
‘In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.’ - Colossians 4:5-6
‘Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.’
Final Practical Advice
- Avoid the habit of constantly asking for favors (kukumbira kumbira).
- As a preacher, do not be choosy with food. As long as it does not make you ill, make every effort to eat what is set before you.
- Be industrious: Learn to grow vegetables for your family, for sale, or to give to those in need.
I wish you all the very best as you head out for your field practice.”
