Mutare School of Preaching (MSOP) was established in 1958 as Nhowe Bible School (NBS) in Macheke near Marondera (formerly Marandellas) by Dr Roy V. and Jixie Palmer, former missionaries to Germany. The Palmers were later joined in 1958 by Loy S and Donna Mitchell from the USA. Loy Mitchell became the pioneer teacher at NBS. In 1969, the school relocated from Nhowe Mission, Macheke to Dangamvura in Mutare (formerly Umtali) and changed its name to Umtali School of Preaching (now Mutare School of Preaching). With the immense support of the Hillcrest Church of Christ of Abilene, Texas, USA, Mutare School has been instrumental in training preachers, planting new congregations and strengthening existing churches in Zimbabwe and beyond.
MSOP graduates have managed to establish many of Churches of Christ in Zimbabwe and in neighboring countries such as Mozambique and Malawi. The school is registered and accredited with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education and offers a fulltime residential preacher training program, a leadership training and enhancement (Diploma Course) program, a members’ training and enhancement for Bible class teachers, church workers and ministry programs at different levels.
